Many Windows users are unaware that most software vendors have their applications load at Windows start up. They do this so that their software loads quickly when selected, but the fact is - it doesn't make a difference except that it loads every time the computer is started.
After a while (as more programs are added that start at Windows start up) it will make your computer seem very sluggish and much slower, compared to the first time you used it.
To disable programs from running at Windows start up (and increase computer performance) follow these instructions:
- Go to Start > Run > Type "MSCONFIG" in the box and hit Enter (without the quotes).
- NOTE: If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 type the "MSCONFIG" in the Search box located at the bottom of the Start menu.
- Click the Startup tab located near the top of the System Configuration Utility window
- Look through the list and uncheck any unnecessary programs you see listed
- Click Apply and then click OK
- You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect
- When your computer turns back on you will receive a notification window regarding the changes you've made in the System Configuration Utility. Simply click the "Hide this Dialogue Box" option and click OK.
